Whose Justice Is It?

Self-defense is protecting yourself, loved ones, or property from an immediate threat.Vigilantes, from the Spanish word for "guards", catch and punish suspected criminals without going through the legal system. Vigilante justice is often more about revenge than self-defense.

    1. I don't really understand your thoughts. I do understand the reasoning you have like we shouldn't take things in our own hands because we have police for that, but you need to back up your response with evidence and explanations.

  2. I have my beliefs on why I should disagree and agree with vigilantes. You should be able to take some laws into your hands, but don't take things to far. Certain things I am okay with like local vigilantes take matters into their own hands and put various lubricants on the pole, holding the sign to make it impossible to climb. But you shouldn't be punishing suspected criminals without the legal system. Thats not right.

  3. I know that sometimes things don't go as planed and taking the law into your own hands can be tricky. Many times there is a process that you have to go through when dealing with the law. You would have to make sure that you have all your evidence and explanations. Why do we have police if people just want to take the law into their own hands? But i do understand that at times you have to take a stand and do what you have to do to get your justice.

  4. I believe law enforcement officers should take care of any problems but thats not always the case. In some situations people have to step in if the officers don't.If they step in they shouldn't punish the person doing wrong but get them to stop. The officers should take care of most problems though.I disagree with vigilantes a little but not completely. The officers can't do everything so sometimes people have to step in.

  5. I agree with them some what. Some laws you should be able to put it to your own hands when there not deadly or a threat. The officers should be taking care of most problems, but thats not always what happens is it? People should be able to step in and tell others what there doing wrong with out punishing the person just like David said. Because if you think about it officers don't always catch someone in the act do they? I do strongly disagree tho with the villagers they should have to go threw a legal system with or if it involes something major.

  6. I think it should be okay to take the law into your hands. Especially in a situation where it's your life, or death. For example, if a guy comes up to you with a knife and is threatening to stab and kill you, you won't have time to call the police and report a guy trying to stab you, you're gonna fight back. Take the "super heroes" for example. They fight crime to protect their community, then immediately call the police to report it. I understand completely when people are talking about how we have the law enforcement, but honestly if their not around, I don't see why you would just sit there and watch the crime happen when you can take justice into your own hands. Thats my opinion.

  7. I agree with them in some cases. For instance, if you are being bullied, you should not beat up the bully. You should always go to the authority if you can, but if there is no authority, you should take it into your own hands. You shouldn't go too far though, because if you do something bad you are no better than them.

  8. You should be able to take some laws into your hands, but don't take things to far. Its okay when its not a threat and its not too dangerous. I think that people can help if its in their community or small town, or if you just step in and tell someone that they are doing the wrong thing... but when its a big problem you should save it for law enforcement because if its something major it really is there job.

  9. You should not take the law into your own hands, isn't that why we have law enforcement and the police? We shouldn't take the law into our hands because what if its threatening or deadly? Why not let someone who knows how to approach the problem rather then you, who might not.

  10. Taking justice in your own hands is 90% percent wrong. You may not think because your so caught up in the moment that your so heated you cant tell the difference between wrong and right. Say someone hurts one of your family members, and that sets you off to the point where you wanna find this person and get revenge. Say you beat the person, not only is that person getting in trouble, your getting arrested for assault.

  11. it really depends if you take justice into your own hands because of anger or because you believe justice should come into play. like vigilanties believe in justice so thats why they do what they do but civilians usually do that they are doing it out of anger and hate against the person.

  12. i feel like justice is in your mind and justice is what you make it. because some people consider revenge as justice

  13. I think that you should be able to take your own justice into your hands. Because I know that i wouldn't want someone else doing my own justice for me. often times though people take justice to far.

  14. I feel that it should be okay to take justice into your own hands. If somebody hurt your family member or did something to you of course you will be heated up and wanting to do something. I don't fell that you should kill somebody but i feel you can defend yourself or a family member.

  15. I think that you should take justice into your own hands, but it depends on the situation. We need to protect ourselves and our family when the police can't get there in time. We should be allowed to make a citizen's arrest when we witness a wrong doing. There are circumstances that allow us to take justice in our own hands without the fear of being arrested and punished. It's okay to take justice into our own hands, if we obey the law while doing it.

  16. I think taking justice into your own hands is not the right thing to do. It is only acceptable if you have no other choice. Vigilantism is against the law but people do it if they have the right reasons to do it. I think being a vigilante is okay if you do it for the right reasons. A vigilante is okay only if you stay on the right side of the law.

  17. I think that taking justice into you own hands is okay if you have the right reasons. Just saying that you can is not a reason. If you stay inside the law you are able be a vigilante only to if you report to the authorities about what you are doing. The authorities will try to arrest you if you don not tell them what you are doing. So being a vigilante is not okay if you do for you own personal goals.

  18. I think it can be okay to take justice into your own hands. Sometimes if its for the right reason. For example if you seen something bad happening and you want to help the good person i think that would be okay. Although it can go bad. You might have seen something differently then what happened and you get in trouble. So you have to think it out throughly before you do something you might make a mistake.
